Australian researchers are developing a breath-testing device which will be capable of accurately detecting early stage head and neck cancers.
Developed by researchers at Flinders University in Adelaide, patients would be asked to blow into a specially designed bag, and the breath then analysed.

In a trial which used 181 people suspected of having a neck or head cancer, the tests results were accurate 85 per cent of the time.
One of the researchers, Dr Roger Yazbek, says they found “patients with head and neck cancer have a unique gas profile compared to non-cancer patients”.
